4 animals die after feeding on garbage
Three bovines and a dog died under mysterious circumstances near a footpath under the flyover on the road leading from Balongi to Chandigarh today morning. Locals said due to consuming some poisonous substance in the garbage, three bovines died. A dog also lost its life after coming under one of the bovine.
Rajinder Singh, owner of Bharat Transport, and his son Kamaldeep Singh said, “When we passed from here at 7 am, one cow was lying dead. But when we returned two hours later, three animals and a dog were dead.” They explained that people come here with garbage in bags and throw it at the spot. If anyone tries to stop them, they enter into heated arguments.
Pawan Kumar, owner of the nearby AK Resort, said, “We get a JCB machine to clean this place every 10 to 15 days, but the garbage starts piling up again shortly after. Keeping this place clean is a direct responsibility of the administration.”
Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi reached the spot and expressed deep concern. He said, “Although this area does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation, I have still called the staff concerned to remove dead animals. I have instructed them to conduct post-mortem examination of animals so the exact cause of death of can be ascertained.”
