MP listens to public grievances, slams hike in power charges
Member of Parliament and former Union Minister Manish Tewari today listened to grievances of residents at a public meeting here.
The meeting was organised by the Joint Coordination Committee of the Residents Welfare Association of Ward 23 at the Sector 43 Community Centre.
A large number of residents, especially youth, participated in the meeting and shared their concerns with the MP. Area Councillor Premlata was also present. Responding to the issues raised on the occasion, Tewari said he had been vigorously raising all matters related to Chandigarh in Parliament. He slammed increasing electricity bills and fixed charges, terming these unjustified. The MP stated that since the power company had not made any significant infrastructure improvement or expansion, there was no valid reason to hike the charges.
He assured that these matters would be strongly raised during the upcoming JERC meeting on July 25.
Earlier, the meeting was opened with a welcome address by Rajesh Rai, president of Sector 43-B RWA. MP Tewari also honoured senior citizens of the ward with mementos as a token of respect.
Senior Deputy Mayor Jasbir Bunti, Deputy Mayor Taruna Mehta, Councillor Hardeep Singh, Aam Aadmi Party Chandigarh president Vijay Paul Singh, former councillor Chandermukhi Sharma, CRAWFED president Hitesh Puri, FOSWAC president Brijendra Singh Bittu and hundreds of citizens were present at the meeting.
