Massive traffic diversion in city today amid Kanwar Yatra

In view of the ongoing Kanwar Yatra, the Delhi Traffic Police on Sunday issued a traffic advisory announcing the closure of Agra Canal Road from Kalindi Kunj to Faridabad and Kalindi Kunj-Yamuna Bridge Road from Monday till July 23.

Earlier, the traffic police had closed half carriageways of both Agra Canal Road (Kalindi Kunj to Badarpur side) and Kalindi Kunj to Noida Road.

The decision comes amid the expected surge in movement of kanwariyas along this route, as the annual religious pilgrimage reaches its peak.

However, fire brigades and police cars will be allowed on the restricted stretches, it said, but advised them to avoid, unless on urgent duty, it added.

“Commuters have been urged to plan their travel in advance and avoid the affected stretches, especially during peak hours,” the advisory read.

It added that commuters from Noida towards Delhi and Faridabad can take alternative routes, Road No 13 (from Sarita Vihar to Kalindi Kunj) and Mathura Road (NH-19) in order to avoid traffic congestion.

Traffic personnel will be deployed along the route to manage the movement and ensure safety.

The Delhi Traffic Police also appealed to the public to cooperate with on-ground staff and stay updated through official traffic bulletins and navigation apps.

The Kanwar Yatra, which draws lakhs of Shiva devotees every year, involves pilgrims traveling on foot and vehicles, often occupying major highways and arterial roads in Delhi-NCR.
