UPSC aspirant hangs self after flunking exam

In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old UPSC aspirant, preparing for the civil services, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his room in the old Rajinder Nagar area of Central Delhi after failing to qualify the exam, the police said on Sunday.

“A suicide note was recovered from the spot wherein he mentioned that he himself is responsible for taking the extreme step,” according to a police official.

A PCR call regarding the incident was received at 6:32 pm on Saturday at the Rajinder Nagar police station from Block 21 in old Rajinder Nagar.

After getting information, a police team reached the spot and found a man hanging from the ceiling fan using a piece of cloth.

The deceased, identified as Tarun Thakur, a resident of Sharajan Datti, Jammu and Kashmir, was residing on the second floor of the house for the past two years.

During preliminary inquiry, it was revealed that the father of the deceased tried to contact him multiple times since morning, but got no response.

He then contacted the house owner, Tanuj, requesting him to check upon his son. The owner, found his room locked from inside. He then entered an adjacent room with a common balcony and saw the youth hanging inside.

He immediately informed the police. A suicide note was recovered from the spot in which the deceased wrote that he himself is responsible for taking the extreme step.

Tarun’s mobile phone was recovered from the spot. His brother, who resides in Gurugram, was also informed.

A crime team was also called to the scene for further inspection and necessary action. Further probe is on in the incident.
