Woman, two aides raid kin’s house posing as CBI officers

A woman, allegedly inspired by Bollywood movies, along with two friends, robbed a relative by posing as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers in the Wazirabad area of North Delhi, the police said on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Shaina (22), a private tutor and distant relative of the complainant, and her accomplices Keshav (28) and Vivek Singh (20), have been arrested.

According to the police, on July 10, three masked people – two men and a woman – entered the house of a businessman, Israt Jameel, and introduced themselves as CBI officials from the Okhla Branch, Delhi.

They told the complainant, Israt Jameel, that they had an FIR and search warrant against him. When the family members asked for a copy of the FIR and search warrant, the accused scolded them and used harsh words, the police said.

One of the accused, who introduced himself as Sunil Dubey, asked the family members to sit in one corner of the room, while other two broke open the lock of the almirah and took all gold, silver jewellery and Rs 3 lakh in cash.

When the complainant asked them about the receipt of the articles and cash, they put their signature on the notebook of his daughter under fake names and escaped, the police said.

“Israt got suspicious and informed the police about the incident. However, before the police could arrive, the imposters escaped,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia.

The DCP said they recovered Rs 1.75 lakh, 29 gold and silver ornaments, a motorcycle used in the crime and clothes worn by the accused at the time of the offence.

He said during interrogation, the fraudsters said they changed their locations frequently to escape arrest. They went to Haridwar and also visited Mussoorie. “They also spent some of the money on their luxury,” the DCP said.
