Mumbai Rains: IMD Issues Orange Alert In Konkan Region For Next 24 Hours

Mumbai: The city and its surrounding areas have been experiencing intense downpours since the early morning on Monday, July 21. Mumbai has been facing thick cloud coverage accompanied by strong winds and heavy showers in areas of the city such as Navi Mumbai, Thane, and the Raigad region. In a recent weather report, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the Konkan area of Maharashtra, excluding Palghar.

Shubhangi Bhute, Director of IMD Mumbai, mentioned in response to the torrential downpours in the city that the intense rains are affecting the city due to the easterly monsoon winds triggering substantial rainfall in the Konkan area. Bhute also mentioned that from 8:30 am this morning, Santacruz has documented 150mm of rainfall, while significant amounts of rain have fallen in Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad regions today.

Residents of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) are receiving SMS radio alerts from Mantralay officials warning of heavy rainfall expected in the city and surrounding areas within the next 3-4 hours, advising people to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary.

Region-Wise Weather Forecast Until July 25

A weather forecast and warning have been issued for the districts of Palghar, Thane, and Mumbai from July 21 to July 25, 2025. The expected weather conditions are as follows:In Palghar District, thunderstorms with lightning, heavy rain, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are expected on July 21. The next day, July 22, will see thunderstorms, moderate rain, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph).

Heavy to very heavy rain is likely at isolated places on July 23, while heavy rain is forecasted at a few places on July 24. Moderate rain is expected on July 25.

Mumbai District will experience heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds on July 21. The next day, July 22, will see thunderstorms, heavy rain, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph). Heavy rain is likely at a few places on July 23, while heavy to very heavy rain is predicted at isolated places on July 24.
