Farmers protest in Bhuna over electricity issues
Under the banner of the Pagdi Sambhal Jatta Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, farmers from several villages of Bhuna block staged a one-day protest at the local electricity office on Monday, demanding solutions to the ongoing power supply problems. The protest was led by district president Omprakash Manda, while block head Kamal Singh presided over the event.
During the protest, the farmers held a meeting with Tohana’s Executive Engineer Krishna Kumar and Subdivisional Officer Vijay Kumar. Omprakash Manda told the officials that the farmers had already given multiple ultimatums over the past two months regarding electricity problems in their villages, but no action was taken. Frustrated by the lack of response, hundreds of farmers gathered outside the power house to voice their concerns.
The protesters raised slogans against the Electricity Department, demanding immediate action. Nayab Tehsildar Somesh Vishisht also reached the spot and accepted a memorandum from the farmers, addressed to the Chief Minister.
Speaking at the protest, Block head Kamal Singh alleged that corruption in the electricity office was at its peak. He said that both farmers and ordinary citizens were suffering due to faulty electricity meters that were showing incorrect readings, resulting in inflated bills. He accused the officials of ignoring complaints, which left people with no choice but to stage a protest outside the SDO’s office.
In response, Executive Engineer Krishna Kumar assured the farmers that all genuine issues would be addressed within seven days. He also promised that all faulty meters would be replaced.
Farmers including Rammehar Siwach from Gorakhpur, Rajesh Lamba from Hasanga, Atmaram Dharnia, Satyawan Moond, Radheshyam Chandrawal, Dalbir Singh, Mahavir Singh, Rajendra Singh, and Menpal Mechu were among those present at the protest.
