How to find and get Honedge in Pokémon GO (and can it be shiny?)

Honedge, the Steel/Ghost-type Pokémon from the Kalos region, has arrived in Pokémon GO during the Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales event. Trainers can find Honedge in one-star raids, as GO Battle League rewards, or through trades with friends. Evolving Honedge into Doublade requires 25 candies, and evolving Doublade into Aegislash needs 100 candies.
