CBSE Curriculum Changes: Option to choose Science and Maths will be available in 11th and 12th also, preparation for CBSE

CBSE Curriculum Changes: CBSE has decided to make changes in accordance with NEP 2020 for STEM subjects at the higher secondary level. Under this, there is a plan to introduce two levels from class 11th. Already two levels Basic and Advanced are proposed for Science and Social Science in class 9th and 10th.

CBSE Two-tier STEM Curriculum: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is now going to take a new step for senior secondary education. The CBSE board had earlier decided to introduce science and social science in two levels basic and advanced in class 9th and 10th.

Now the board is planning to introduce Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects at the higher secondary level in two levels for class 11th and 12th (CBSE Two-tier STEM Curriculum). This step of CBSE will help students to choose subjects according to their preferences and future plans.

Students will not have to study any subject under compulsion

This structure is effective in improving the learning experience of children. Many students are often forced to take subjects that do not match their interest or future goals at all. In such a situation, the aim of this initiative of the board is to reduce the stress of such students. This new change will be made under the National Education Policy 2020. According to the Sunday Express, this change will start from the academic session 2026-27 for class 11th and 12th.

The board has already adopted this method of learning

CBSE Board has already done this experiment. CBSE had given two options for the maths paper in the board exam to the students of class 10th. The board noticed that many children did not want to take maths in class 11th and 12th, but wanted to pass with good marks in class 10th. The board said that this helped those students.

The board had introduced Maths for class 10 at two levels, one standard and the other basic. The basic level maths exam is easier than the standard level exam. However, the question papers of both these levels are prepared from the same syllabus.

First there will be an option for class 11th students

In December last year, the governing body of the board approved the proposal to introduce Science and Social Science in two levels in class 9 and 10 as well. Now the board is going to adopt the same method for Science and Maths in class 11 and 12 as well. First this change will be implemented on class 11 students in the academic session 2026-27. However, this timeline may change, depending on the release of new NCERT books.
