Four kanwarias killed in Yamunanagar; two electrocuted, 2 die in road mishap
Four kanwarias lost their lives in two separate incidents in Yamunanagar district today. Two were electrocuted while participating in a religious procession, the two others were killed in a road accident while en route to Haridwar.
The deceased have been identified as Kuldeep (40) and Harish (42), both residents of Gumthala Rao village, and Devinder and Ajaypal, both hailing from Agra, Uttar Pradesh.
In the first incident, around 15 kanwarias from Gumthala Rao were performing parikrama (circumambulation of their village as per ritual) while aboard a utility vehicle, before setting out for Haridwar to collect the kanwar.
During the parikrama, the vehicle accidentally came in contact with a high-tension electricity wire, causing a fatal electric shock.
“Kuldeep and Harish were electrocuted on the spot. Two others, Rinku and Sumit, sustained burn injuries and were rushed to hospital,” said a local official.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and initiated an investigation.
In a separate mishap near Khandwa village, a collision occurred between a motorcycle and a utility vehicle, killing Devinder and Ajaypal, who were heading to Haridwar from Kaithal to bring the kanwar.
Both victims were working as masons in Kaithal.
