Kanwar Yatra celebration of Indian culture, faith: CM

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday extended a heartfelt welcome to Kanwariyas at the Shyamgiri Baba Temple Kanwar Camp in Shastri Park, marking the onset of the holy month of sawan with floral tributes.

Embracing the spiritual significance of the Kanwar Yatra, the Chief Minister described the event as a “sacred celebration of Indian culture, heritage and collective faith”.

Accompanied by Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra, local MLAs, councillors and senior officials, the CM also inspected key stretches of the Kanwar Yatra route, reviewing safety arrangements and infrastructure readiness. She directed officials to ensure uninterrupted services and maintain the sanctity and orderliness of the annual pilgrimage.

“Serving Shiv Bhakts is our honour and duty,” the CM said, adding that her government aimed to act not as an organiser, but as a humble facilitator of the spiritual journey.

This year’s yatra has witnessed unprecedented preparations by the Delhi Government, with special emphasis on security, sanitation, power supply, medical aid and seamless coordination among all stakeholders. A Single Window Clearance System was introduced to fast-track permissions, enabling swift implementation of arrangements across the city.

In a significant administrative move, the government released advance funds to all registered Kanwar committees through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), facilitating the timely setup of camps and services. Mobile toilets, drinking water stations, street lighting and waste management systems were closely monitored by government agencies to ensure effective on-ground execution.

The CM noted that the entire permission process was completed within 72 hours — a first for Delhi — highlighting the administration’s responsiveness and dedication.

“The Delhi Government has functioned at every level as a volunteer, not as a formal organiser,” she said, lauding social and religious organisations for their coordinated efforts.

Temporary shelters, health booths, rest areas and refreshment points have been set up across various parts of the city, creating a welcoming environment for lakhs of devotees passing through Delhi.

Echoing the CM’s sentiments, Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra said, “The Kanwar Yatra reflects our rich cultural and spiritual traditions. Under Rekha ji’s leadership, Delhi has set a new benchmark in faith-driven public service.”
