'Why Will We Have Meeting In Mosque': Sambhal MP's Rebuttal On UP Dy CM's 'Namazwadi' Jibe
Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq on Wednesday rebutted the allegations of Akhilesh Yadav using a mosque for a political meeting, saying there are a lot of other buildings where a political meeting could be held.
On Tuesday, Uttarakhand Waqf Board chairman Shadab Shams accused Samajwadi Party chief and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav of using the mosque on Parliament Street in New Delhi for a political meeting and demanded an apology from him, saying it had hurt Muslim sentiments.
Barq refused that the meeting was political, asking why such a meeting would be held in a mosque.
"There were no meetings held. Don't we have space in the Parliament or in the residences of MPs to hold meetings? Why will he have a meeting in a Mosque? This is creating an issue unnecessarily...," said the MP from Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal constituency.
Shams had criticised Akhilesh Yadav and his other party colleagues for visiting the mosque after SP MP Dharmendra Yadav shared an image on X. In the image, Akhilesh Yadav can be seen sitting along with several party MPs, including his wife Dimple Yadav, party MP from Rampur Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi and Sambhal MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq inside the mosque.
“Mosques are sacred centres of faith meant for offering prayers, not holding political discussions. By using the mosque for a political meeting with party MPs, Akhilesh Yadav has hurt the sentiments of Muslims. He should offer an apology to Muslims for what he has done,” Shams said.
“The impressive facade and the interior of the mosque on Parliament Street are clearly visible in the pictures and can be easily identified. Dharmendra Yadav should not have lied about it,” he added.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also took a jibe against Yadav, who is a former UP CM, calling him "Namaazwadi" and accusing him and his party of violating basic provisions of the Constitution.
