Ex-Modelites reunite after 32 years, pool funds to support alma mater

A group of alumni of Model School, who are now settled in different parts of the country as well as abroad, met at a recent re-union in Rohtak after 32 years of completing their schooling.

The ex-Modelites, who passed Class XII in 1993, were overwhelmed as they visited their school after more than three decades. The alumni were welcomed by the school teachers, students and staff members led by Principal Aruna Taneja.

They were taken around an exhibition of science models and artistic creations put up by the students. “We felt nostalgic as we met our teachers and school friends, sat on the new benches in our old classrooms and saw the school laboratories again after so long,” observed Kanika Baweja, one of the former students.

In a heart-warming gesture, the former students also decided to pool funds for a drinking water-chiller to give back to their school.

Zippy Proothi, who was among the coordinators of the event as well as the pooling drive, said it was a great feeling to be re-connected to one’s roots and they would make efforts to support their alma mater in future too.

The former teachers also seemed elated and rejuvenated during the get-together. “It was an unforgettable experience to reconnect with my old students after such a long time. It was a moment of pride, which will always stay with me,” stated Debjani Saraswati, a former teacher at Model School.

Her views were endorsed by former teachers Vijay Balhara, AshokGujral, RS Malhan and Parveen Khurana, who is at present the Principal of another branch of the school.

After staying together for an entire day of fun, frolic, laughter and tears, the group members dispersed to return to their respective places, but after making a firm resolve to stay in touch and pay back to their school and society in every possible way.
