Man gets five-year jail for blackmailing girl with obscene video

A Fast Track POCSO Court in Fatehabad has sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for blackmailing a young woman, using an obscene video. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday by Additional Sessions Judge Amit Garg. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,00,000 on the convict. If the fine is not paid, he will have to serve an additional six months sentence in jail.

District Public Prosecutor Devendra Mittal said the accused was convicted due to strong evidence collected by the police and effective arguments presented by the prosecution.

According to case details, the victim had filed a complaint on February 16, 2023, at the Cyber Police Station in Fatehabad. She stated that Ranjit Kumar, a resident of Marh village, to which she belonged, had first befriended her and later made an obscene video to blackmail her. Taking the matter seriously, the police registered a case under Sections 376(2) (N) (rape) and 506 of the IPC and Sections 66E and 67A of the IT Act. After investigation, a charge sheet was filed in the court. While the rape charge under Section 376(2) (N) could not be proven in the court, the accused was found guilty under other sections of the law. — OC
