JAMMU, July 24: Leader of the Opposition in the J&K Assembly, Sunil Sharma, called on Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Dr Jitendra Singh, in New Delhi to deliberate on the security landscape and review the progress of developmental initiatives in the Union Territory.
During the meeting, Sharma expressed satisfaction over the peaceful and smooth conduct of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, appreciating the coordination among security and administrative agencies. The duo discussed infrastructure and economic growth in the region, with a particular focus on the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes such as the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP), Jal Jeevan Mission, and the expansion of road and rail connectivity.
Dr Singh reiterated the Centre’s commitment to providing full support for timely execution of these projects and assured that administrative hurdles would not be allowed to hamper progress.
Youth engagement and employment generation emerged as another key area of focus. Sharma strongly advocated for enhanced central investment in skill development and startup ecosystems to harness the potential of local youth. In response, Dr Singh highlighted the scope of Digital India and Skill India missions in empowering young talent in J&K through vocational training and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Terming the meeting as “constructive and forward-looking,” Sunil Sharma said it addressed both immediate security concerns and long-term developmental goals. “I’m confident our collective efforts will pave the way for a stronger and more prosperous Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh described the interaction as a “positive exchange,” reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to peace, progress and inclusive development in the region.
