Four students dead and at least 17 injured as school building collapses in Rajasthan's Jhalawar

The roof of a classroom collapsed on Friday morning in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, trapping as many as 60-70 people, a majority of whom are children. Officials have not yet confirmed the official number of deaths. However, four are thought to have been killed, and at least 17 are injured and admitted to hospitals.

The incident is thought to have happened at about 8.30 am. Local media reported that the students attended classes in Peeplodi Government School of Manoharthana in Jhalawar when the building collapsed.

Rajasthan Chief Minister  Bhajanlal Sharma said in a post on X that,"Instructions have been given to the concerned authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured children."

Superintendent of police, Jhalawar, Amit Kumar, said that some of the children were critically injured while speaking to PTI.

Police also said that students were taken out of the debris with the help of teachers and villagers. The children were rushed to the Manohar Thana Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.

The collapse of the school's roof is thought to have been triggered due to heavy rains and the building's dilapidated conditions. Authorities are expected to conduct an inquiry into the cause of the building's collapse.
