Thane Crime: 20-Year-Old Habitual Burglar Arrested, ₹10.99 Lakh Worth Ornaments Recovered; Mother Absconding
Thane: The Naupada Police have cracked ten burglary cases by arresting a habitual thief who allegedly broke into homes by prying open main doors using tools and escaping with valuables in Thane. Police recovered gold and silver ornaments worth over ₹10.99 lakh. The accused has been identified as Ganesh Gupta alias Ganesh Avhad (20), a resident of the Diva area near the dumping ground.
Initial Burglary Complaint Involved ₹7.99 Lakh Theft
According to police officials, on July 14, a complainant named Atul Marathe approached the police to report a burglary in which gold and silver ornaments worth ₹7.99 lakh were stolen. The incident occurred between 1:30 PM and 10:30 PM on July 13.
CCTV Footage and Technical Surveillance Led to Breakthrough
Based on the complaint, the police initiated an investigation and examined CCTV footage from the surrounding area. They discovered footage showing a woman with two children, one of whom was carrying a bag believed to contain housebreaking tools. Following this lead, the police meticulously reviewed around 100 CCTV clips from various locations.
Accused’s Mother, Also a Burglar, Now on the Run
During the investigation, police identified the woman as a habitual burglar. Photos of her and her accomplice, captured from CCTV footage, were circulated. Using technical surveillance and local intelligence, the police traced and arrested Ganesh. Gold and silver ornaments valued at ₹10.99 lakh were recovered from his possession.
Court Remands Ganesh to Police Custody; Hunt On for Accomplice Mother
Ganesh was produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigation. During interrogation, he revealed the identity of his mother named Pooja Gupta alias Pooja Prakash Avhad (45).
Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Mangesh Bhange of the Naupada Police Station stated, “We have launched a manhunt for her. Further investigation into the matter is underway.”
