Mohali Admn mulls curbs on heavy vehicles during peak hours
The administration is considering imposing restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles during the peak hours on the city roads to reduce traffic along the Airport Road.
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, MC Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh and other officials met today to explore measures for streamlining traffic in the city. They emphasised that until parallel and alternative routes are completed, the entry of heavy vehicles in the city should be curtailed during the morning and evening peak hours — tentatively from 8 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 8 pm.
All key stakeholders, including the Municipal Corporation, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), and the district police, have been requested to expedite their respective plans aimed at decongesting the city roads.
The SSP proposed a temporary road bifurcation near the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) to facilitate traffic flow on the Airport Road.
The MC Commissioner took up the issue of stray animals and dairy cattle posing a risk to commuters on streets. He suggested setting up a dairy/cattle rearing complex outside the municipal limits. Local cattle owners would be encouraged to house their animals within their premises, and awareness would be created regarding the proper disposal of cow/buffalo dung to prevent choking of sewer lines.
It was decided to dispose of the garbage collected from the Balongi area at MC the dumping sites, thereby improving the cleanliness and aesthetics of the Old Balongi barrier-Mohali road stretch.
