CM inaugurates Teej Mahotsav at Delhi Haat

The three-day Teej Mahotsav 2025 was inaugurated on Friday at Delhi Haat, Pitampura, in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister for Art, Culture, Language and Tourism, Kapil Mishra. Organised by the Delhi Government’s Department of Tourism, the festival celebrates the capital’s vibrant cultural identity, women’s empowerment and rich folk traditions.

Women Members of Parliament from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan also took part in the festivities, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressing her gratitude for their participation despite the ongoing Parliament session. “The presence of my MP sisters and the Women’s Wing has added new charm to this celebration,” said the Chief Minister. She added that Teej is not just a festival, but a powerful symbol of women’s dignity, community participation and cultural pride.

Minister Kapil Mishra described Teej Mahotsav as more than just a cultural occasion — calling it a tribute to creativity, entrepreneurship and collective pride. He emphasised that the entire festival is free for all, ensuring women from all sections of society can participate and enjoy the events.

This year’s Teej Mahotsav features over 100 stalls, including 80 showcasing traditional handicrafts and handloom products and 25 serving cuisines from across India. Women entrepreneurs have been given special focus, with discounts at their stalls to promote self-reliance.

Visitors are being treated to a vibrant festive atmosphere, with mehendi competitions, bindi decoration, rangoli, selfie points, traditional swings and a dedicated Kids Zone offering storytelling sessions, magic shows and games for the entire family.

Adding a contemporary touch, Teej Quiz and Slogan Writing contests with cash prizes are being held to encourage creative engagement from women and youth. The festival’s reach has also been amplified online through platforms like BookMyShow and promotions by popular female social media influencers, enhancing Delhi’s cultural presence in the digital space.

Ahead of the event, Minister Mishra chaired planning meetings with the BJP Mahila Morcha, women’s organisations, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) and social workers to ensure the festival remains inclusive and engaging for all.

The Teej Mahotsav will run until July 27 and is being hailed as another step in Delhi’s transformation from national capital to cultural capital.
