After four years, CUHP finally gets a permanent Registrar
After a wait of four years, the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) has finally appointed a permanent Registrar — Dr Narender Kumar Sankhyan — marking a significant milestone in the university’s administrative evolution. An accomplished academician and seasoned administrator, Dr Sankhyan brings with him over 28 years of experience, most recently serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Soil Science at Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur.
In his inaugural address, Dr Sankhyan outlined a forward-looking vision for CUHP: to unify its fragmented campuses, enforce institutional discipline and elevate the university’s national profile. With the permanent campus at Dehra nearing completion, he expressed confidence that several departments would relocate there by the end of the year, consolidating academic and administrative functions that have long been scattered across rented premises.
He also pledged to accelerate the resolution of land-related issues concerning the Dharamsala campus — a longstanding hurdle in CUHP’s infrastructure development — thereby ensuring greater operational stability. Dr Sankhyan reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the university’s national rankings and academic reputation.
In a candid interview with The Tribune, he extended his support to both university staff and students, assuring them of a responsive and forward-thinking administration. His appointment, far from being a routine administrative change, symbolises a renewed sense of purpose. With his leadership, CUHP now stands poised for a transformative chapter — one defined by unity, infrastructure growth and academic excellence. The next five years promise to script a bold and hopeful new era for the university.
