Calf crushed under tipper in Garhshankar
A controversy broke out in Garhshankar after a tipper driver allegedly crushed a calf and assaulted a youth who protested. In response, members of Hindu organisations staged a sit-in outside the local police station Thursday night, accusing the police of inaction.
Arvinder Singh of Sadhowal village claimed the incident occurred around 7 pm near a petrol pump on the Garhshankar–Nawanshahr road. He alleged a tipper from Avtar company deliberately crushed the calf. When he objected, he was beaten by the driver and others.
Singh said he fled to the police station for safety, but the attackers followed and threatened him there, while the police allegedly stood by.
Around 10 pm, members of Hindu groups gathered at the police station, blocked traffic, and raised slogans demanding action. Protest leaders accused the police of siding with the accused and failing to protect the victim. SHO Jaipal said complaints had been filed by both parties and the matter is under investigation.
