United Nations Secretary-General  António Guterres expressed concern over recent clashes between Thailand and Cambodia and urged both nations to agree for a ceasefire immediately. The clashes entered fourth day on Sunday, and United States President Donald Trump has expressed willingness to broker peace between the warring nations.

In a post on social media platform X, the UN secretary-general said the global body is ready to assist ceasefire efforts. "I am deeply concerned about the recent armed clashes at the border between Cambodia and Thailand. I urge both sides to immediately agree to a ceasefire and to address any issues through dialogue," Guterres said. He added, "I remain available to assist in efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the dispute."

On Saturday, US President Trump said he spoke with leaders of both nations and they have agreed to "quickly work out a ceasefire". "It was an honor to deal with both countries. They have a long and storied history and culture. They will hopefully get along for many years to come. When all is done, and peace is at hand, I look forward to concluding our trading agreements with both!," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Till Saturday, over 30 people have died in the conflict, and it has displaced over 1.68 lakh people. Both countries recalled their ambassadors and Thailand closed its border crossings with Cambodia. The latest tensions between the neighbouring nations flared in May when a Cambodian soldier was killed in a confrontation that created a diplomatic rift and roiled Thailand's domestic politics. The 800-kilometre frontier between Thailand and Cambodia has been disputed for decades, but past confrontations have been limited and brief.

Responding to Trump's call, Thailand's foreign ministry said it agrees in principle that a ceasefire is needed, however, it would like to see sincere intention from the Cambodian side.

According to Fresh News, a Cambodian news agency,  Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has agreed to a ceasefire between the two armies.
