Stretch along green belt to be developed on lines of Smart Road, work begins in Karnal
The work on the stretch along the green belt from Meerut Road T-Point to Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk, which is at present full of potholes, began on Monday.
Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand and Mayor Renu Bala Gupta formally got the work on the road started, which will be developed on the lines of a Smart Road at an estimated cost of Rs 7.92 crore.
Anand, speaking on the occasion, emphasised that the new road would significantly improve travel for commuters, making it safer and more convenient. He said that the work was initially scheduled to begin two months ago but was delayed due to the monsoon. “With the monsoon nearly over, the work is now underway to ensure a durable road that benefits residents for years to come,” he said.
He said under the “triple engine” BJP government, development projects are being carried out transparently. “Every construction site features information boards with full project details and contact information of responsible officials, allowing public feedback and ensuring accountability,” he said.
Anand also directed the contractor to ensure high construction quality, maintaining proper road levels to prevent water accumulation. Gupta congratulated residents and highlighted the road’s importance as a lifeline for several sectors and wards. She said that daily hundreds of vehicles use this route, and the new road will fulfill a long-standing public demand. Temporary patchwork was done earlier to maintain access during the rainy season.
She credited the consistent progress of Karnal to the leadership of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal. She instructed the engineering team to closely monitor the project and ensure robust construction. BJP district president Praveen Lather also congratulated the residents and said the BJP was committed to inclusive development and delivering the benefits of government schemes to every citizen. XEN OP Kardam informed that the strengthening of the 4600-metre-long road will start from Meerut Road T-point, pass through Sai Baba Mandir Chowk, Noor Mahal Chowk, Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk and end near the Sector 9 Community Centre. The road will be built using bituminous concrete.
The entire project is expected to be completed within six months and will enhance the experience for both drivers and pedestrians.
