On Day 3 of India’s final Test match against England at The Oval for the fifth Test, Google CEO Sundar Pichai made a surprise visit to the commentary box. With the match entering an entertaining stage, Pichai joined Harsha Bhogle, seasoned commentator, for a brief yet memorable few minutes on-air.

Pichai is a huge cricket lover and he was in the commentary box during a crucial moment of India’s second innings. Coincidentally, Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar was in the middle of a phenomenal innings at the exact time. This moment did not go unnoticed by the fans as Sundar mentioned how Sundar was batting.

Harsha Bhogle took to social media to praise Pichai for his humility

Harsha Bhogle later took to social media platform X (formerly twitter) to shower praise and wrote, “I don’t think I have been in a commentary box with a corporate leader of this stature. Loves cricket, is extraordinarily down-to-earth. #SundarPichai.

Though not a professional commentator, Pichai impressed the cricket fans with his calm and composed presence. He timed his pauses well during live action and contributed valuable input. In response to Bhogle’s praise, Pichai playfully said, “I’m sitting next to the best,” appreciating Bhogle

Pichai lauded both the team while reflecting on the series

Pichai also praised both the teams, looking back at the series. “What a series it’s been. Loved the fight between both teams. At this point, I’d put money on a 2-2.” Pichai said

Talking about the match, Washington Sundar’s sensational fifty from just 39 balls, which included four sixes and a couple of fours, had the Oval crowd on their feet. His aggressive batting helped India to a commanding score of 396 to give England a difficult target of 374 runs.

Players had a great day with the bat. Yashasvi Jaiswal did the most damage with a brilliant 118. Akash Deep played a crucial knock of 66. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar both had 53. After trailing by 23 runs in the first innings, Indian team were able to put up a total of 396 in the second innings, which set England an ambitious target of 374 runs with over two days left in the match.
