Vidarbha’s future lies in sustainable industries: Gadkari
NAGPUR, Aug 3: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today said Vidarbha’s future lies in sustainable industries, integrated logistics and agro-based value chains.
Speaking at the “India@100 charting Vidarbha’s journey to a Developed India” in Nagpur, Gadkari said Vidarbha’s future lies in sustainable industries, integrated logistics and agro-based value chains.
The Minister called upon the region to spearhead India’s next industrial wave focused on green, inclusive, and innovation-driven growth.
He stressed that Nagpur must evolve as a model city where infrastructure supports enterprise and enterprise uplifts the last mile, noting that if India aspires to become a developed nation by 2047, regions like Vidarbha must lead from the front.
He called on industry, academia, and civil society to unite in building Vidarbha into a vibrant, innovation-led economic zone.
He further revealed that a new mining policy is currently under review by the central government, with a special focus on fast-tracking mining and steel development in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district.
Speaking about the ongoing developments in the region, Gadkari stated that the mining policy was recently presented in a Cabinet meeting. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed reservations about certain aspects of the policy.
After I offered a few suggestions, the Prime Minister asked the Cabinet Secretary to consult me further and review the policy accordingly,Gadkari said.
Among his recommendations, Gadkari emphasized the need to begin the mining process without unnecessary delay.
He proposed that environmental clearances be granted within one month, and all other necessary state and central government approvals be completed within three months, enabling production to begin in the fourth month.
This approach will enhance ease of doing business by eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks,” he added.
