Is there foul play in Sunjay Kapur's death? Mother Rani Kapur urges UK probe, cites 'credible evidence' amid Sona Comstar succession battle
Sunjay Kapur and Rani Kapur
Amid speculations over the mysterious death of businessman Sunjay Kapur, his mother Rani Kapur has sent a letter to the government in UK, seeking a thorough investigation into the 'mysterious circumstances' surrounding the untimely demise of her son.
Rani Kapur raised concerns about "coordinated transnational conspiracy" involving individuals from India, the UK and even the USA. This comes as the Kapur family is stuck in a bitter feud over succession in the ₹30,000 crore Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) business empire.
Rani Kapur, who is the former chairperson and co-founder of Sona Comstar, filed a criminal complaint with the Surrey Police over the death of Sunjay at the Duke's Ground of Old Guards Polo Club. He died on June 12 during a polo match following a cardiac arrest. Sunjay accidentally swallowed a bee that got stuck in his throat and led to an allergic reaction.
She claimed that there is "credible and concerning evidence" Sunjay's death may not have been "natural or accidental" but may in fact have involved foul play, including the possibility of murder, abetment, conspiracy, fraud, and forgery.
“I am compelled to bring to your urgent attention that credible and concerning evidence has surfaced indicating that his death may not have been natural or accidental,” she wrote.
Sunjay's mother claimed that since his death, she has come across dubious asset transfers, forged financial records, suspicious legal filings and "indications of coercion or collusion between individuals who stood to gain financially from his demise".
"I respectfully request for immediate registration of a formal complaint and initiation of a criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding my son’s death," she wrote.
Rani also urged the authorities to seize CCTV footage, forensic evidence, digital records, medical and financial documents.
Speaking to ANI, Rani said, "I still don't know what happened to my son. I’m old now and need closure before I go." While pointing out that she had no involvement in the company since 2019, she asserted that "our family legacy must not be lost. It must be passed on, as my husband always wanted it to be."
