Youth dies of ‘drug overdose’ at health club in Kapurthala
A tragic incident occurred this morning near the Jallokhana area of Kapurthala where a young man reportedly died after injecting himself with a drug inside a health club bathroom.
The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Singh, a resident of Khera Majha village. According to police sources, Pradeep had been visiting Power Health Club regularly for the past three months. On Tuesday morning, he went to the gym as usual. A short while later, he went into the club’s bathroom but did not return for a long time. His fellow gym-goers grew concerned. They found him lying unconscious on the floor, with a syringe nearby.
The police were immediately informed. A team from the PCR and City Police Station reached the spot and took custody of the body. The authorities have started an investigation into the case.
DSP of the sub-division Deepkaran Singh confirmed that a probe is underway to determine the cause of death and whether any illegal substance was involved.
Initial signs suggest that the youth may have died due to a drug overdose, but the exact cause will be confirmed after a post-mortem and forensic examination of the syringe and other evidence found at the scene.
This incident has raised concerns about the rising trend of drug use among the youth, even in fitness centres. The police are also investigating whether anyone else is involved in providing the substance or encouraging its use.
The health club is expected to come under scrutiny as the authorities look into its management practices and whether any negligence occurred. The police are investigating the matter.
