Girl Student Dies by Self-Immolation in Kendrapara

Bhubaneswar: A tragic incident occurred in Badapada village under Pattamundai police limits in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, where a Plus-3 final-year student from Pattamundai College died after allegedly setting herself on fire.

The incident, which took place today, marks the third self-immolation case reported in Odisha within the past month.

According to reports, the student poured kerosene on herself at her home and set herself ablaze while her family was away.

She reportedly succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Pattamundai police have launched an investigation, but the reason behind her extreme action remains unclear.

This incident follows two similar cases in July. On July 12, a college girl in Balasore died after setting herself on fire, allegedly due to continuous harassment by a faculty member, while undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar. On July 19, a minor girl in Puri’s Balanaga area also succumbed to burn injuries from self-immolation at AIIMS-New Delhi on August 2.Authorities are yet to determine the causes behind these alarming incidents, raising concerns about mental health and safety among young women in the state.
