Pakistan’s top govt officers are buying land in this country, not US, UK, Dubai, China, Saudi Arabia, Europe, Singapore, Maldives, name is….

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has made a shocking claim that has raised serious questions about the country’s bureaucracy. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Asif said that more than half of Pakistan’s top government officers have bought land, not in big countries like the US or UK, but in the small European nation of Portugal.

He also claimed that many of these officers are now planning to get citizenship in Portugal. Some of them have already received it.

3,000 Pakistanis got Portuguese citizenship in 8 years

According to Asif, these officials held powerful positions in the government and misused public money during their time in office. He said they are now looking to settle abroad after retirement and live a peaceful life there.

Official data shows that between 2016 and 2024, nearly 3,000 Pakistanis have taken Portuguese citizenship.

Asif’s statements have sparked debate in Pakistan, with many questioning how these officials managed to buy foreign properties after serving in top roles.

“More than half of our bureaucracy has bought property in Portugal and is preparing to obtain citizenship. These are not ordinary people but well-known bureaucrats who, after swallowing billions like crocodiles, are enjoying a comfortable retired life,” Asif said.

Khawaja Asif’s shocking claims on corruption

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has made more explosive claims about corruption and the luxurious lives of top officials after retirement.

He shared a startling example, saying that a government officer who was very close to former Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar received around 4 billion Pakistani rupees just as wedding gifts for his daughters. That officer is now living a relaxed, retired life overseas.

“Politicians only get leftovers”, Asif takes a dig

Asif didn’t stop there. He also mocked the condition of Pakistani politicians, saying, “Politicians only get the leftovers. They don’t have land plots or foreign citizenships.”

He explained that unlike bureaucrats, politicians have to contest elections and stay visible in public life, so they don’t get the same kind of wealth or benefits. His remarks have sparked fresh debate over how some officials misuse their power while in service and then quietly settle abroad after retirement.
