Kerala weather forecast: Yellow alert in 6 districts on August 14 as IMD predicts isolated heavy rainfall

Kerala saw widespread rain on Wednesday with yellow alert in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. IMD has predicted that there could be widespread rainfall and isolated heavy rainfall in affected districts.
The Met department said the rains will continue for two or three days with winds with 50 kmph speed in some regions. Kollam, Pathnamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts saw isolated moderate rainfall on Wednesday evening.

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued yellow alert for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Thursday. Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted in these districts for August 14. Other districts will see isolated light showers during the day.
This comes after a low pressure system was formed above western Bay of Bengal. It could intensify in 24 hours and move towards the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast in the next 48 hours.
Thunderstorm warning
IMD has also warned of thunderstorms, advising people to stay indoors and disconnect power supply to household appliances during rains. IMD said the use of telephone should be avoided during thunderstorm but it is safe to use mobile phones.
People are advised to avoid open areas and avoid touching the walls or floors. IMD has also advised people to avoid bathing or collecting water from taps during thunderstorms as electricity caused by lightning could travel through pipes.
Motorists are advised to stay inside vehicles during thunderstorm but IMD has cautioned about parking under trees. It also warned against travelling on bicycles and two wheelers.
