Monsoon fury submerges Jind
The downpour also caused part of the boundary wall of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Park to collapse, though no injuries were reported. Main roads and residential colonies — Gohana Road, Urban Estate, Shiv Colony, Housing Board Colony, Gandhi Nagar, Rohtak Road, Bhiwani Road, Budha Baba Basti, Devi Lal Chowk, Patiala Chowk, Narwana Road, Kaithal Road and underpasses — were among the worst affected, leaving residents wading through knee-deep water.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Imran Raza and Additional Deputy Commissioner Vivek Arya visited several localities to review the situation, instructing officials to speed up drainage efforts.
The heavy rain also forced a change in Independence Day celebrations. The venue was shifted from Eklavya Stadium to New Anaj Mandi due to flooding at the original site. Rajya Sabha MP Rekha Sharma will be the chief guest at the function.
Officials said preparations at Eklavya Stadium were severely hampered by continuous rain from 6 am to noon, disrupting arrangements and making the ground unusable for the event.
