ACB nabs JE for taking Rs 20,000 bribe

SRINAGAR, Aug 14: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today trapped and arrested Aamir Farooq Sheikh, Junior Engineer (JE) of the Rural Development Department, Shopian, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
According to the ACB, a complainant alleged that payment of Rs 7.5 lakh for works executed by him was pending with the Department, and the JE had demanded the bribe to facilitate its release. Acting on the complaint, the ACB conducted discreet verification and registered FIR Number 04/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at Police Station ACB Anantnag.
A trap team, accompanied by independent witnesses, caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe, which was recovered from his possession in the presence of witnesses. He was arrested on the spot.
Subsequent searches were conducted at his residences in Kachdoora, Shopian, and Kanipora, Nowgam, Srinagar. The ACB said further investigation is in progress.
