Vintage cars add colour to Kerala’s new status as a preferred wedding destination

Vintage car owners have suddenly vroomed on to a lucrative track, thanks to the growth of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector in the state of Kerala. With destination weddings now being pushed to the front as a major component of the tourism package, an array of vintage cars is also finding good business opportunities that result in making a good amount of money.
Going by the latest trend, vintage cars are making waves in Kerala’s destination wedding sector, with wedding planners making it a point to have the bride and groom arrive in quaint-old vehicles for photo-shoots. Such photo shoots have become an indispensable part of intimate ceremonies, of late.
A recent conclave organised by the Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) Society in collaboration with the Kerala Tourism department witnessed the upsurge the participation of vintage cars in wedding and other intimate ceremonies. An array of vintage cars was seen hogging all the limelight at the first ever Wedding and MICE Conclave organized in Kochi.
Demand for vintage cars up
A spokesperson for the event said that the trend of destination weddings has jacked up the demand for vintage cars. An expo was organised at the Hotel Le Meridien, the venue of the conclave, and it had lined up a wide range of vintage cars, much to the excitement of the onlookers.
A 1930-model Beauford on display at the stall of Kerala Tourism at the event proved that fans would line up for such vehicles. The Beauford is a vintage car typically found in big hotels and luxury resorts, which have become the preferred venues for destination weddings in the state.
Going by a KTM Society statement, vintage being used to transport the bride and groom has been a centuries-old tradition in the west, particularly in England. Today, with destination weddings gaining popularity in Kerala, the state has begun copying this ritual gracefully. Veteran, Edwardian, vintage and classic models are now stars on the wedding scene in Kerala. In addition, there are old classic jeeps and scooters.
Vintage beauties for the bride and groom
Apart from the 1930-model Beauford, the expo also saw beauties from a Changanassery based garage, and they included a 1924 model Austin Chummy, a 1929 Dodge (once owned by the Mysore Royal Family), a Ford Model T, a Morris Moke, Impala, a Dodge, a World War II Dodge and a Willys MB.
All these vintage cars are now turning out to be huge hits at the destination wedding venues. The natural beauty of the state makes Kerala an increasingly preferred spot for destination weddings, and it is here that these vintage charmers drive in to make things even more colourful.
