3 injured in Rohtak police encounter arrested
Three youths who were injured in a police encounter on the night of August 12 have been arrested following medical treatment here, the police said on Wednesday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Pushpender and Azad, both from Rajasthan, and Ayush, a resident of Behlba village in Rohtak district. They were produced before a local court, which sent them to police remand for two days.
According to CIA-1 incharge Inspector Kuldeep Singh, a police patrolling team saw the trio riding on a motorcycle and signalled them to stop.
“Instead of stopping, the youths attempted to flee and opened fire at the police team. The police retaliated, during which two of them sustained bullet injuries and the third was hurt as the motorcycle skidded,” he said.
The police have registered a case against the three under Sections 132, 221, 109(1), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Arms Act. Following the encounter, they were admitted to the local PGIMS for treatment and were arrested upon recovery, said the police officer.
As per the police, the accused were involved in an earlier case of armed robbery. On August 7, they allegedly looted cash and jewellery from an iron trader on Jhajjar Road in Rohtak. A separate FIR has been registered in that case under Sections 309(4), 311 and 332(B) of the BNS and the Arms Act.
Pushpender and Ayush have a criminal record, the police added.
