Rahul Mamkootathil MLA backed out of marriage promise citing caste: Former Kerala Congress MP's daughter tells AICC

As many as nine complaints were filed against Palakkad MLA and former Youth Congress Kerala chief Rahul Mamkootathil with the All India Congress Committee (AICC), reports claimed. To the shock of many, the complainants included the daughter of a former Congress MP from Kerala, who accused Rahul of backing out from a promise of marriage to her, citing her community. The young woman has not fully recovered from the shock after Rahul Mamkootathil broke her heart, Malayalam media reports said.

Almost the entire higher-level Congress leadership in Kerala was aware of this development, media reports said. The girl's father, who is Rahul's senior party colleague and a former Lok Sabha MP, had invited him home as many as four times after he came to know about the relationship. While he was positive at that time, he later broke all ties with the young woman, Dool News said in a report.

The report added that Rahul Mamkootathil cited his family's disagreement over the inter-caste union as the reason for breaking ties, the Dool News said. The woman hailed from a backward community, the report added. Pathanmathitta native Rahul is an upper-caste Hindu.

Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil resigned as the Youth Congress state president over allegations including forcing a woman to abort her pregnancy and sending obscene messages to an actress, Rini Ann George.

Meanwhile, reports claimed that even before Rini Ann George made statements against a young political leader, AICC general secretary Deepa Das Munshi had received as many as nine complaints from different women against Rahul—including from the daughter of the former MP. While the party has not asked him to resign from the Assembly, it has been decided to deny him a ticket for the upcoming polls in the southern state, news reports added.
