Properties of tax defaulters sealed in Karnal, Rs 4.69 lakh collected on spot
In a major action against property tax defaulters, the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Thursday carried out a sealing drive against property tax defaulters. The team members sealed three commercial properties with dues amounting to Rs 5.52 lakh. The action was taken under Section 130 of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, said Vaishali Sharma, Commissioner, KMC.
She said a total of 11 properties were identified for attachment having dues around Rs 30 lakh, out of which three were sealed —one located in Dayanand Colony and two in Sector 3, HSIIDC. As the drive progressed, three property owners paid Rs 4.69 lakh on the spot, while two others sought a few days’ time to clear their dues through written undertakings.
“If the remaining defaulters fail to deposit their tax within the given time, their properties will be attached without further notice,” said the commissioner.
She further informed that before the attachment proceedings began, three other defaulters visited the corporation office and paid Rs 2.30 lakh for avoiding further action.
She said three separate notices were issued earlier to all defaulters, followed by personal service of attachment notices, but the property owners failed to respond seriously, prompting the corporation to take strict action.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) Abhe Singh, who was appointed as the Duty Magistrate for the proceedings. The enforcement team included Zonal Taxation Officer (ZTO) Ankush Parashar, Tax Superintendents Gagandeep Singh and Sunil Kumar, and enforcement staff members Jitendra Malik, Harsh Kumar, Gaurav Rana, Pradeep Kumar, Ankit Bansal, and Shailendra Pandey, along with police personnel to ensure smooth execution.
“Action against defaulting institutions will continue. Orders for attachment of 18 more properties will be issued soon,” the commissioner added.
