MP Aujla pledges funds for flood-affected schools’ water supply
MP Gurjit Singh Aujla, Lok Sabha MP, chaired a recent meeting of the district development coordination and evaluation committee to review ongoing development works. He said under a joint campaign led by the district administration, Rs 50,000 from the MPLAD fund would be allocated to each government school for digging new water boreholes in flood-affected areas.
Aujla emphasised the need to support and rehabilitate communities affected by the floods. He noted several schools in Ajnala and Ramdas, damaged by flooding, are facing a clean drinking water crisis, relying on bottled water or local supplies. He instructed officials to plant trees along riverbanks to create a natural defence against future floods.
The meeting also included a review of various government initiatives.
Mayor of the Municipal Corporation, Jatinder Singh Moti Bhatia, said all city roads would be repaired by October 15. He urged officials to maintain machinery received from various organisations during the floods to ensure their readiness for future use.
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney outlined the Mission Sanjha Upharala, a district administration initiative to support flood-affected families. She said efforts are ongoing to rehabilitate these families with the assistance of voluntary organisations. “The health department continues fogging and spraying in villages, while medical services remain fully operational.
