Over 92,000 MT paddy procured in K’thala; Rs 203.29 crore paid to farmers

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal on Wednesday informed that a total of 92,571.96 metric tonnes of paddy has been procured so far in Kapurthala district during the ongoing procurement season. He said that payments amounting to Rs 203.29 crore have already been transferred to the bank accounts of farmers within the stipulated timeframe.

Giving a breakdown of the procurement, the Deputy Commissioner said Markfed has led the drive by procuring 32,793.86 MT, followed by PUNGRAIN with 30,734.60 MT, PUNSUP with 20,500.60 MT, the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation with 8,240.90 MT and private traders with 302 MT.

Panchal further informed that out of the total quantity procured, 77,938 MT of paddy has already been lifted from the mandis. Agency-wise lifting includes 29,635 MT by Markfed, 24,447 MT by PUNGRAIN, 16,123 MT by PUNSUP, 7,430 MT by the Warehousing Corporation and 302 MT by private traders.

Reiterating the district administration’s commitment to ensuring that every grain brought to the mandis is procured, the Deputy Commissioner said comprehensive arrangements have been made at all procurement centres. He added that officials have been directed to regularly visit the mandis to ensure smooth and transparent operations.

Panchal also appealed to farmers to bring only adequately dried paddy to the mandis, in accordance with government norms, to avoid any hindrance in the procurement process.
