Breaking News: 7.6 magnitude Earthquake strikes off Philippines’s Mindanao region; Tsunami warning issued
A major earthquake struck the Mindanao region of the Philippines on Friday, prompting a tsunami warning for the area. As reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the earthquake occurred with a magnitude of 7.6 and the depth of the earthquake’s epicenter was located at 62 kilometers.
The U.S. Tsunami Warning System also issued a warning of potential tsunami waves along coastlines within a 300 km radius of the epicenter. Philippine authorities have urged residents to remain alert. Initially, the earthquake was measured at 7.2 magnitude, but it was later revised to 7.6.
According to the NavBharat Times Hindi report, the first tsunami waves are likely to arrive in the Philippines between 9:43 AM and 11:43 AM local time on October 10, after the earthquake. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, these waves could persist for several hours. The local tsunami database indicates that wave heights could exceed more than 1 meter above normal tidal levels, or higher in port and bay areas.
