More funds for robust fire safety infra at govt hospitals

Bhubaneswar: The state government will provide necessary funds from the allocations made in the Budget to strengthen fire safety infrastructure in public health institutions, said Health Secretary Ashwathi S, stressing the importance of adhering to deadlines.
Ashwathi S chaired a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan here Thursday to assess the progress of government hospital building projects and implementation of fire safety measures across health facilities in the state.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from multiple departments, including Health, Fire Services, Works, Public Health, WATCO and Rural Development.
During the review, the health secretary emphasised the need to speed up construction and renovation works of Primary Health Centres (PHCs), medical colleges and hospitals to ensure all facilities become fully functional at the earliest.
She directed that fire safety should be treated as a top priority in all healthcare institutions.
Highlighting the risks of electrical hazards, she instructed officials to ensure safe electrical connections and prevent short circuits in all buildings.
Departments were also urged to work in close coordination to put in place all necessary emergency safety systems.
All concerned departments were asked to submit a detailed report by next week, outlining corrective measures and financial estimates.
