Flag march in Cuttack: Police Commissioner warns stern action against rumours, sedition charges if needed

Commissionerate Police on Friday conducted a flag march in Dargah Bazaar and Qadam-e-Rasool areas in Cuttack as part of heightened vigilance, with officials asserting that the situation in the city remains under control.
Speaking to OTV, Twin City Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh issued a stern warning to individuals spreading false information and rumours on social media, cautioning that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
“The situation is normal in Cuttack. Arrangements were made for the prayers of a community. And I reviewed the arrangements. There are some people who are circulating fake information on social media. We will continue our crackdown against the false information,” Singh added.
However, authorities noted that some individuals continue to post misleading content on social media, which is being widely circulated and going viral.
“Those spreading misleading information must desist immediately, else strict action will be initiated,” the Commissioner warned.
“Police force has been deployed as a precautionary measure. I urge the residents of Cuttack to enjoy the festivity. So far, 30 persons have been arrested in connection with the case,” the top cop informed.

The police have reiterated that any deliberate attempt to mislead the public or destabilize law and order will be met with uncompromising action, including registering cases under relevant laws, up to and including sedition.
