After 'Amar Singh Chamkila', Imtiaz Ali directs Diljit Dosanjh in a 'bigger' film

Imtiaz Ali, who worked with Diljit Dosanjh in Amar Singh Chamkila, will direct the actor-singer again in an as-yet-untitled feature co-starring Vedang Raina, Sharvari, and Naseeruddin Shah.

The film, billed as a love story, is backed by Applause Entertainment, the company behind shows like Black Warrant and The Hunt - The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case, and films like Do Aur Do Pyaar and Sharmajee Ki Beti, in association with Window Seat Films and Reliance Entertainment.

The project, currently in production, is aiming for a Baisakhi 2026 release.

In a statement, Imtiaz Ali said the story has a "large canvas, yet is very personal."

"It is a story of a boy and a girl, but also a country," he further added. "Can love really be lost? Can home be taken away from someone's heart? This is a film that I feel fortunate to be working on. It's about what is left with us when everything else is lost. The love that refuses to be left behind guides us through the highs and lows of life and remains the everlasting song on our lips and smile in our hearts."

Sameer Nair, managing director of Applause Entertainment, added that the project is a natural fit for the company's big-screen ambitions, calling it a "romance for the ages."

AR Rahman, the other collaborator of Imtiaz from Amar Singh Chamkila, is composing the music to Irshad Kamil's lyrics.

Imtiaz last directed the segment 'Jules' from the anthology My Melbourne. He was also one of the cast members of Anurag Basu's Metro... in Dino.
