Lawyer Pitabas Panda died from point-blank gunshot and shock, autopsy confirms

The postmortem report of lawyer Pitabas Panda was received by the probe team on Friday, revealing that he died due to excessive bleeding and internal damage caused by a gunshot fired from point-blank.
According to the autopsy, the bullet wounds led to profuse haemorrhaging, ultimately causing his death.
The incident occurred on the night of Kumar Purnima (October 6), when unknown assailants allegedly shot Pitabas near his residence and fled the scene.
The report clearly establishes that the gunshot was fired from a short distance, making the attack deliberate and targeted.
The gruesome murder has sent shockwaves through the legal community and raised serious questions about public safety. Investigations are going on, and the police have yet to make any arrests in the case.
Authorities have promised swift action, but the identity and motive of the assailants still remain unknown.
Legal fraternity has demanded a thorough and impartial probe, while public outcry grows over the brazenness of the crime. With growing pressure, law enforcement is expected to intensify its efforts to bring the culprits to justice.
“Post-mortem was (earlier) conducted, and the report was completely prepared, and it has already been submitted by us. We cannot give any comments on the findings, when the ammunition was fired and how it was fired, as it is very confidential in nature,” MKCG Hospital FMT (Forensic Medicine & Toxicology) Head, Dr. Sudeepa Das, said.
“However, the bullet was fired from a close range. Haemorrhage – severe internal bleeding – was there causing shock and death,” the FMT Head expressed.
Worth mentioning, earlier in the day, Berhampur police seized a suspicious XUV vehicle believed to be linked to the crime.
