Food safety officials carry out inspections across city

Food Safety Team, Ludhiana, carried out intensive food inspections and sampling drives across different areas of the city to ensure food safety and quality compliance during the festive season. The operation focused on verifying the quality of commonly consumed sweets, dairy products and other edible items available in local markets.

The team collected a total of nine food samples from various localities, including Kakowal Road, Noorwala Road, Gill Road, Kot Mangal Singh and Basant Park. Samples of Mango Delight, Jammu chocolate barfi, ghujia, used cooking oil and paneer and two each of chana laddoo and desi ghee were collected. These items were chosen for testing based on their frequent use in sweets and festive preparations.

All collected samples have been sent to the State Food Laboratory for detailed analysis to check their conformity with the FSSAI safety and quality standards. Appropriate legal action will be taken as per laboratory reports once results are received.

Civil Surgeon Ramandeep Kaur emphasised that the Health Department was committed to ensuring the supply of safe, hygienic and high-quality food to residents of the city. She appealed to all food business operators (FBOs) to maintain strict hygiene and cleanliness at their workplaces, use only good quality raw materials and ensure compliance with all Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations.

The Food Safety Team reaffirmed that such inspections and sampling drives would continue across the district to monitor food safety, prevent adulteration and safeguard public health, especially during the festive season when consumption of sweets and dairy products was at its peak.
