This superstar filed a Rs 100 crore case against his wife and brother, now the High Court delivered a judgement which…, his name is…
Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Rs 100-crore defamation suit against his brother Shamasuddin Siddiqui and ex-wife Anjana Pandey has been dismissed by the Bombay High Court. The actor had accused them of misappropriating Rs 21 crore from his bank accounts and defaming him in the media. A single-judge bench of Justice Jitendra Jain dismissed the case as Nawazuddin and his lawyer were absent from the proceedings. A detailed copy of the court order is yet to be made public.
What triggered the case?
The dispute traces back to 2008 when Nawazuddin had appointed Shamasuddin as his manager. Shamasuddin was entrusted with managing the actor’s bank accounts, filing taxes, and handling other financial matters. Over time, Nawazuddin alleged, his brother began buying joint properties in both their names using funds from the actor’s accounts.
The properties allegedly included plots, flats, and farmhouses in prime locations like Versova, Mumbai, and even Dubai. Nawazuddin claimed that when he confronted Shamasuddin, the latter allegedly persuaded Pandey to file false cases against him, including allegations of cheating and sexual misconduct.
Marriage disputes and alleged deception
Nawazuddin also alleged that his ex-wife, Pandey, had misled him before their marriage. “I was told she was Muslim and unmarried,” the actor claimed, “Later, I found out she was Hindu and already married. My brother and she were trying to defraud me.” He said that more than Rs 21 crore had been misappropriated from his accounts, leaving him shocked at the betrayal within his own family.
The actor also cited private recordings and alleged tax issues, claiming Shamasuddin recorded official and personal conversations to use against him if the fraud was discovered. He further alleged that his brother failed to file income tax returns and pay GST, resulting in dues of Rs 37 crore.
Impact on career and reputation
Nawazuddin claimed that the negative publicity generated by his family members affected his film projects, causing delays and a hostile professional environment. “This has created trauma and depression for me. I am unable to secure new films because of the misinformation spread by my own family,” the petition stated. He sought directions from the court to stop defamatory articles and demanded Rs 100 crore in compensation.
Why was the case dismissed?
Since Nawazuddin Siddiqui and his lawyer failed to appear in court, the bench dismissed the suit for “non-prosecution.” Shamasuddin’s legal team, including Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh, Snigdha Khandelwal, and Farid Shaikh, described the case as baseless, claiming it was filed merely to pressure their client in personal financial disputes.
Nawazuddin’s upcoming projects
On the work front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is gearing up for his next release, Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Paresh Rawal. The film is scheduled to release on October 21, 2025.
