Kerala Box Office collection: 'Ravanaprabhu' records second-biggest re-release opening day; top-5 films are all Mohanlal-starrers

On Friday (October 10), Mohanlal's Ravanaprabhu (2002) had a re-release and took an outstanding opening at the Kerala Box Office. In fact, it performed better than all the current films except Kantara: Chapter 1 which continues to dominate the box office numbers.
As per early estimates, Ravanaprabhu has clocked Rs 70 lakh on its opening day at the Kerala box office. It is the second-highest opening day for a re-release, second only to Mohanlal's Spadikam which had a re-release in 2022 amidst COVID19 pandemic. With excellent booking for Saturday and Sunday, this mass entertainer is set for a Rs 2 crore gross weekend.
Ravanaprabhu, sequel to the 1993 blockbuster Devasuram, was a superhit at the box office during its initial release in 2002. It is also one of those films that has managed to age well, syncing well with the current generation of youth as well. Mohanlal's dual role is arguably his most iconic multiple role film till date.
As father, he reprises the cult character Mangalassery Neelakandan from Devasuram, now an aged man with a mellowed mindset. While is a beautifully restrained performance, it is as his son Karthikeyan that Mohanlal sets the screens on fire, playing to the gallery in a way only he can.
The top-five re-release opening days in Kerala all belong to Mohanlal. Manichitrathazhu, Chotta Mumbai and Devadoothan are the other films in the list in this particular order itself.
