484 Pangi students get life skills assessment
In a significant step toward enhancing the quality of education and holistic student development, NITI Aayog conducted a baseline assessment of students’ life skills in the Aspirational Block Pangi of Chamba.
The Aayog conducted the assessment in collaboration with Magic Bus India Foundation under the Jeevan Shiksha Prakalp (JSP) programme.
The assessment, aimed at gauging students’ proficiency in essential life skills, covered 484 pupils from Classes VI to VIII studying in 20 government schools across the Pangi block. The evaluation focused on critical competencies such as problem-solving, decision-making, self-management, creativity, empathy, self-discipline, resilience, adaptability, communication, collaboration and dialogue.
JSP Fellow Trilok, who oversaw the initiative, highlighted that the baseline exercise will serve as a foundation for targeted interventions to strengthen students’ life skills and overall educational outcomes. He added that in addition to student assessments, the programme will train 33 teachers from 27 government schools in the Pangi block. The teachers will benefit from capacity-building workshops conducted by master trainers, equipping them to adopt activity-based, inquiry-based, and challenge-based teaching methodologies in classrooms.
Teachers participating in the assessment described the process as highly effective, student-centric and beneficial for fostering holistic growth. They emphasised that such initiatives not only promote academic learning, but also prepare students to navigate real-life challenges with confidence and emotional intelligence.
