New Delhi: In a major development, the Afghan army launched multiple attacks inside Pakistan. The Afghan Taliban confirmed the strikes, describing them as a retaliatory action against attacks by the Pakistani army. According to the reports, the Afghan forces stormed several Pakistani military posts, and at least 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed. Afghanistan’s security forces also targeted Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists sheltered by Pakistan across the Durand Line — the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

The strikes were carried out on ISIS hideouts located across the notional Durand Line — near Zakeemullah, on the Pakistani side opposite Nari district in Kunar and Kamdesh district in Nuristan province. The ISIS bases inside Pakistan, situated near the border, were allegedly operating under the protection of the Pakistani army and were involved in suspicious activities against the Afghan Taliban.
