Indian Railways Diwali Update: Can passengers carry fireworks and sparklers on a train? Check new rule here

New Delhi: Indian Railways is experiencing a huge spike in ticket demand as the Diwali festival approaches. It is often seen that people traveling from Delhi or other cities to their hometowns carry a lot of items for Diwali. While you can take sweets, clothes, and toys on the train, under no circumstances should you carry rockets, flower pots (anar), or any kind of fireworks. The authorities have prohibited these products. Passengers caught travelling with crackers or sparklers on a train will face jail.

Railway rules clearly state that traveling with any kind of flammable or explosive material on trains is strictly forbidden. This includes crackers, sparklers, rockets, anars, or any other type of fireworks.

Here are some of the key details:

  • Carrying fireworks on trains is not only a violation of rules but can also pose a serious threat to the lives of hundreds of passengers.
  • A small spark or mistake could set the entire train on fire.
  • Every year, during Diwali, the railway security department strictly monitors this rule and appeals to passengers to stay away from such hazardous items.

According to Indian Railways rules, if a passenger carries any prohibited item during travel, action can be taken under Section 164 of the Railway Act. Under this section, the passenger may be liable to a fine of ₹1,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both.
