Man’s decomposed body found near Hindon Canal

A decomposed body of a man was found wrapped in tape and sealed inside a plastic bag near the Hindon Canal in East Delhi’s Ghazipur area, the police said on Sunday. The hands of the victim were found tied with a rope.

On Saturday evening, the police received information about a body lying near the Hindon Canal, opposite Mulla Colony, Ghazipur.

After getting information, a team reached the spot and found the body in a decomposed state wrapped in brown tape and packed inside a plastic bag, an official said.

The site was cordoned off and crime and forensic teams were called to collect evidence. Prima facie, a case under Sections 103 (murder) and 238(a) (offense of causing the disappearance of evidence) of the BNS has been registered. Efforts are being made to ascertain the identity of the deceased.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the person might have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped at the canal. “The exact cause of the death will be known only after the postmortem report,” the official mentioned.

Meanwhile, the police are also scanning the CCTV cameras installed nearby to get clues.

According to the Zonal Integrated Police Network (ZIPNET) data, 2,377 unidentified bodies had been found so far this year in Delhi.
